Treating Traumatized Children
This workshop opens with a gripping case presentation of “Luke,” and a format for treating trauma in children. Riveting examples of emotional trauma include those of famous individuals such as Carl Gustav Jung and Stephen King. DSM V criteria are briefly reviewed, and multiple treatment tools, both concrete and ephemeral, are introduced.
Throughout the workshop, Carol Juul skillfully uses case studies to illuminate key issues, as she applies a plethora of therapeutic tools and principles to demonstrate how to meet specific therapeutic goals.
Carol weaves the theories and philosophies of Sigmund Freud, Joseph Campbell and Carl Jung into a tapestry that provides a strong foundation for working with trauma in children. Tools include pranayama breathing, meditation, guided imagery, and Dr. Christine Padesky’s cognitive restructuring for PTSD and healing trauma in children. Special attention is given to evidence-based methods for managing creative, hyperactive and/or over-anxious, and over stimulated children.
From intake interview to closure, attendees are provided with information on how to both reinforce and anchor objectives, as well as how to integrate techniques, philosophies, and formats to provide a sound treatment plan for traumatized children.
